The Policy Doesn’t Say: Leading AI Decisions in IB Schools
Many schools now have an AI policy or guidance. Very few have a way of deciding what to do when it doesn’t say. This working session prepares IBDP coordinators, middle leaders and senior leadership to make the AI decisions that arrive without guidance: in a moderation meeting, in a parent email, in two departments reaching opposite conclusions about the same task. Working from realistic IB school scenarios, participants place their school on two readiness areas, test their reasoning against the IB’s draft AI Design Principles and relevant KHDA expectations, and design a 30-Day Inquiry to move one area forward. The remaining four areas go back to school with them, to complete with their own teams.

Workshop led by Almas Qureshi
Almas Qureshi is an educator, IB specialist and independent AI and EdTech trainer working with schools across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region. With over twenty years in education, she has taught and led across the IB continuum and CIE, most recently spending twelve years as Founding Head of Technology (Secondary) at an IB World School in Dubai. There she served as secondary AI lead, running staff training at scale, evaluating and approving AI tools for school use, and leading classroom pilots before AI guidance existed to draw on. She has trained and presented to over 3,500 educators across the region.
She is an IB examiner, a Google Certified Innovator (VIA26), Gemini AI Certified Educator and Faculty, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching. Her work focuses on human-centred AI adoption, helping school leaders and teachers use AI with confidence while protecting the thinking that learning depends on.
